Navy Blue Shoes – 9 ½ EE

Faith can seem like an ethereal, philosophical, and distant word – above and beyond our reach. If this were true, holding on to faith and experience it in everyday life would be hard.

To me, faith is fundamental and natural. It’s all about relationships. I know that if I ask someone who loves me deeply for something, if possible, it will happen. I have faith that it will happen. My relationship with God operates the same way.

I went shopping. I needed a pair of navy blue dress shoes. My feet are wide—9 ½ EE. I checked at some specialty stores in the mall but could find nothing, so I headed to Ross.

I had an argument with myself.

Why don’t you ask God to help you find shoes?

But God is too busy for such little stuff – you can find your own shoes, for pity’s sake.

God says that even the hairs of your head are numbered. He must care about little needs as well as big ones.

Out loud, I said, “Okay, dear Lord, it would be nice if you could help me find a pair of navy blue shoes, 9 ½ EE, at Ross. Even though I knew God could do it, I didn’t believe he would. I had looked at Ross many times and never found blue or my size.

I walked down the shoe aisles, thinking about my silly prayer. Lo and behold, there they were! Not just one, but two pairs of 9 ½ EE navy dress shoes. I was so moved that I cried right there between the shoe racks, thanking God for caring about my little needs.

What’s even better is that they were on sale, a big sale. Yes, we do like sales.

Faith is a living, growing, dynamic relationship. My Lord, thank you for increasing my faith each day.

What about you? Have you had an experience about God’s care in a small thing that strengthened your faith? Share it with us.
